Everything was great at the cabin, we had a wonderful time.
A Lake Memory was a great retreat for my four daughters and 1 new son in
law. Very easy to get to, very quite and comforting. My family very much
loved the time we got to spend with each other, As children grow it gets
harder to spend some time together. I will note that the lack of cell
service was a great thing, take the cell phones out of service and that
makes for a great thing really bonding with your children. So that's a

Thanks for everything Walt...the cabin was fabulous! Bessie did an amazing job, the place was spotless. The cabin was wonderfully remote and secluded. It looked beautiful all covered in snow. This was my romantic Christmas gift to my boyfriend and he said he's never slept better than in your SUPER comfortable king bed and he really enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub. "I've been sincerely meaning to e-mail you! However I've been keeping busy trying to catch up at work after the vacation. So the bottom line is: I can't tell you what a wonderful time we had!!!! The cabin was very accommodating and spacious! With 9 of us there it worked out perfectly. We followed your directions exactly and thank God we did, because we had NO problems finding the place. That goes for the "girl" car at least... we traveled in two cars from Jacksonville, FL...us girls got in fine...the boys ended up getting lost and got in late Friday night. Main reason? They left my printed out directions in the trunk in someone's suitcase and stubbornly assumed they could figure out directions on their own... :) I told them so. (Honestly, in the back of my mind I was afraid this whole thing was an internet scam up until we pulled in the driveway--due to it being $ SUCH a great deal!
We went rafting Saturday and hiking around the area on Sunday. We never ate out once--on the way in town we stopped at the grocery store and bought enough food to feed a hungry army and cooked and grilled for every meal! It was great! And the dining room table accommodated all of us! We had some rain throughout the trip so we ended up really enjoying the place! So, THANK YOU for such a wonderful vacation!! We were glad to find so many things already there that we needed as well....linens, plenty of towels, robes, wood, satellite radio!, trash bags, etc.

"My family and I had a wonderful family reunion in A Lake Memory and a cabin of yours nearby. The cabin was very large and we were all comfortable with plenty of space to spare. The king size beds were very comfortable and we all slept wonderfully. My son loved the pool table, he had his family members playing with him every opportunity that arose. We loved the kitchen and dining room. We cooked 3 meals a day for 7 days in the kitchen. It was really well equipped with all the pans and utensils we needed. I loved waking up in the morning sipping coffee and eating my mom's homemade cinnamon rolls on the porch. The scenery and sounds were beautiful. We definitely got a good work out walking up and down the hill. The kid's enjoyed having the loft all to themselves. It was a great experience. Thank you, Elizabeth"

best vacations of my life! Your cabin was everything you described it to

schnauzers provided me the first opportunity to have a vacation that
included them. Because my favorite little one was recently diagnosed
with cancer, you allowed me to make memories with her that I will

Lake Nantahala is a crystal clear, remote high elevation lake nestled in North Carolina's Smoky Mountains
approximately 120 miles from Atlanta, convenient to Franklin, Andrews
and Murphy. The majority of Lake Nantahala's shoreline is US
Forest Service land and will never be developed. As a result, the
views are not marred by other homes. Lake Nantahala is over twice the
size of Lake Rabun and has only 1/3 the number of home sites. Lake
Nantahala is a true mountain lake with deep, crystal-clear water. At
3200 ft., Lake Nantahala is one of the highest elevation lakes in the
Southeast. Lake Nantahala's cool waters are great for fishing mountain
trout, pike, bass, catfish and watersports.

The Nantahala River, located in the US Forest Service Nantahala National Forest, is one of America's favorite whitewater playgrounds. Its ideal location at the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, close to Atlanta GA, Knoxville TN, Greenville SC, Asheville NC and just a short distance from Murphy, Andrews, Robbinsville, Franklin, Cherokee and Bryson City, NC makes the Nantahala River convenient to mountain vacationers. Mountain Waters Scenic
Byway
Beginning in Highlands, this 61 miles nationally-recognized byway winds through
southern Appalachian hardwood forests, by numerous waterfalls and lakes and
through two river gorges. Traveling from Highlands to Almond the Mountain Waters
Scenic Byway follows U.S. 64, old U.S. 64, SR 1310 (Wayah Road), and U.S. 19.
The last miles of this drive travels through the Nantahala National Forest
ending at the Fontana Lake. If you enjoy a scenic drive where you can picnic
along the way then this drive is for you. Along the byway you can also enjoy
boating, canoeing and rafting, biking, fishing, hiking and swimming. Bring your
boat, canoe, or kayak and enjoy a fun-filled day on one of the area lakes or on
the Nantahala River.
Areas of Interest Along
the Byway:
CULLASAJA GORGE: makes up the first 7.5 miles of this byway. Traveling through
the beautiful Cullasaja Gorge, the winding road parallels the Cullasaja River
and offers spectacular scenic views of the river and the waterfalls of Highlands
on U.S. 64. A side road actually allows you to drive behind Bridal Veil Falls,
where the thin "veil" of water falls for 120 feet.
DRY FALLS: You'll find this 75-foot beauty 2.1 miles west of Highlands on U.S.
64. From the parking area, a short paved trail leads you directly behind the
waterfall.
CLIFFSIDE LAKE & VAN HOOK GLADE: Cliffside Lake Recreation Area is 4.4 miles
west of Highlands and then 1.5 miles off U.S. 64. This area offers camping,
picnicking, swimming, fishing and hiking.
WAYAH CREEK: West of Franklin, the byway turns right on old U.S. 64, then left
on SR 1310. SR 1310 (Wayah Road) parallels much of the 6-mile stream. The creek
is a good fishing stream, but most of the streamside is private land and is
posted "no trespassing". Along Wayah Creek is the Arrowood Glade Picnic Area.
Wayah Crest Picnic Area is at Wayah Gap.
WAYAH BALD: A side trip to Wayah Bald is well worthwhile. From Wayah Gap,
journey 1.3 miles up gravel Forest Road (FR) 69 and see the Wilson Lick Ranger
Station. Built about 1913, Wilson Lick was the first ranger station in the
Nantahala National Forest. Continue another 3.2 miles up FR 69 to Wayah Bald.
Take the short, paved trail to the historic Wayah Bald Fire Tower. Built by the
Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's, the tower provides a great view of
the southern Appalachian Mountains in Georgia, Tennessee, and both Carolinas.
You can picnic nearby at the Wayah Bald Picnic Area. Two long-distance trails,
the Appalachian Trail and the Bartram Trail, cross the mountain at the tower.
NANTAHALA LAKE: Located about 6 miles west of Wayah Gap, this lake has 29 miles
of shoreline and offers fishing and boating. Boat ramps are available.
NANTAHALA RIVER: This mountain river offers great trout fishing in its upper and
lower reaches. The stretch of river above the powerhouse has excellent
catch-and-release fishing from spring until early summer.
NANTAHALA RIVER GORGE: The Nantahala River draws many boaters who enjoy
whitewater rafting, canoeing, and kayaking. Many businesses along the river
offer both guided and unguided raft rentals. Most rafting trips begin from the
Nantahala River Launch Site and float down the 8.5-mile whitewater run. About
2.75 miles downriver from this launch site is the Ferebee Memorial Picnic Area,
which provides another launch and takeout area. At the lower end of the
Nantahala River, a commercial-only takeout and a private boater area are
provided. From a wooden walkway, spectators get a thrilling view of the wild
ride over the final series of rapids, including Nantahala Falls. Nantahala River
outfitters, under Forest Service permit, can help plan trips to fit your skill
level and provide any equipment you might need.
FONTANA LAKE: This lake offers great Bass and Pike fishing with 11,685 acres of
water surface and also provides recreational water activities such as boating,
kneeboarding, swimming, and water skiing. Construction of the 480 foot high
Fontana Dam, which was completed in 1944 and is the highest Dam east of the
Rockies, backed water for 30 miles to make up what is now the Fontana Lake.
Numerous boat ramps are available.
